Documentation

Everything you need to set up FrameDrop and start using your phone as a high-quality virtual webcam.

Requirements

  • An Android device running Android 9.0 or higher.
  • A 64-bit Windows PC (Windows 10 or 11).
  • A USB cable capable of data transfer (not charge-only).

Installation

1. Mobile App (Android)

Download the FrameDrop APK and open it on your phone. Because the app is distributed outside the Play Store, Android will ask you to allow installs from your browser or file manager — tap Settings → Allow from this source, then install.

Download APK

2. Desktop Client (Windows)

Download and run the installer. It sets up the FrameDrop app and installs the virtual webcam driver used by OBS, Zoom, Discord and other apps. If Windows SmartScreen appears, click More info → Run anyway.

USB Tethering Setup

FrameDrop connects your phone to your PC over USB. To create that data connection, you need to enable Developer Options and turn on USB Tethering. This is a one-time setup.

1

Enable Developer Options

Open Settings → About phone and tap Build number seven times. You'll see "You are now a developer!" once it's unlocked.

2

Connect your phone via USB

Plug your phone into your PC with a data-capable USB cable. If prompted on the phone, allow the connection / set the USB mode to "File transfer".

3

Enable USB Tethering

Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Hotspot & Tethering (the exact path varies by manufacturer) and turn on USB Tethering. It only becomes available while the cable is plugged in.

Developer Options and USB Tethering must stay enabled for FrameDrop to detect your phone. If the desktop client can't find your device, return to this screen and confirm USB Tethering is still on.

Connect & Stream

  1. Open the FrameDrop app on your phone and the desktop client on your PC.
  2. With the phone tethered, the desktop client will detect it automatically — select your device.
  3. In OBS, Zoom, Discord or any other app, choose "FrameDrop Virtual Camera" as your camera source.
  4. You're live. Adjust resolution and orientation from the desktop client as needed.

Troubleshooting

Desktop client doesn't detect my phone

Confirm USB Tethering is enabled, try a different USB port or a known data cable, and reconnect the phone.

Virtual camera not showing in OBS/Zoom

Restart the app after installing the desktop client so it can pick up the newly installed virtual camera driver.

Wireless / WiFi connection

FrameDrop currently supports USB only. Wireless WiFi streaming is in active development and coming soon.
